I  Japan, But Whaling Breaks My Heart!

I worked for Greenpeace [link] a little during 2007, and of all the material we handed out, this was my favourite! It is quite an effective message. I think it was one of the items that would most speak to the people who don't normally think about the plight of the environment. We also had pamphlets, information cards, and were ready to answer any questions, have discussions and debates, but most people don’t have time to stop, or bother to read the material. So a simple sticker, stating the basic feelings of Greenpeace members can go along way.. plus it is cute

Both Greenpeace and Sea Shepherds are standing against whaling. I believe concentrating on the similarities, rather than their differences. Both go about it in a different fashion, but both, at  are trying the protect these wonderful creatures..

This is from the Greenpeace campaign. I claim no ownership of the image - it is part of their public international campaign. They are a worthy organisation, and I endorse their values. If you can, please check out their website. If you plan to donate, please think of becoming a supporter of your regional branch, as all the funds they are donated go directly into local campaigns. Greenpeace is a non-government, not-for-profit organisation, and they do not accept money from either governments or businesses. In this way they are free from any ties with corporations or political parties - which is a good thing because it means they can say things that need to be said with out being influenced by either of those parties. To learn more about their campaigns, please visit their website [link] and for specifics on the anti-whaling campaign, including current figures and campaign updates, please visit [link]

yeay! that was my first stamp!!

:flirty: check out my other accounts: =obsidiantears83 and ~obsidiantearstock

Edit: Please don't start bashing Greenpeace on this stamp. It's not worth it, and I didn’t make the stamp to start a dialogue on the pros and cons of Greenpeace or any other anti-whaling NGOs. We each have our own views on this matter. I created the stamp because I agree with the sentiment of this specific campaign, the "I  Japan, but whaling breaks my heart" campaign - not as propaganda. I would have made it regardless of whose campaign it was. Oh, and don’t bother with the Greenpeace Vs Sea Shepherds [link] argument either. Both pursue the anti-whaling goal in the way that agrees with their convictions. GP is about lobbying, changing the way people see things, as well as non-violent direct action. SS is about going in and stopping the whaling fleets anyway they can. If you feel strongly about either organisation, go and support them, donate or volunteer. Why waste your energy here flaming those who do care about the plight of the whales when you could be out discussing the issues of the anti-whaling campaign with someone who doesn’t know much about it. I get so frustrated because there is so much enmity between the two organisations, but at the end of the day they want the same thing! I think we need to concentrate on that, not the friction that exists between the members of both NGOs. I understand both sides, and I think this is one of the times that we need to acknowledge the differences of how these NGO's run their campaigns, and understand that they have the same goal in mind. An end to whaling! And that is what is important, not how they go about it! So please embrace the differences, and understand that both NGO's are needed in the campaign if we want to make a difference. Everybody has their own political preferences, but we need to embrace the fact that in the end, it is about ending the needless slaughter of these gorgeous creatures!

Fave tally for this stamp on my main account is 102 (12/02/2009)

Edit: I wont be entering into discussions on pro vs antiwhaling or Greenpeace vs Sea Shepherds here. Feel free to express your freedom of speech, but remember people don't like blatant flamers. If you have something to say it is worth the time to say it politely LOL This stamp says exactly what I feel. I won’t get into any debates about Greenpeace versus Sea Shepherds as I support the end to commercial and “scientific” whaling. If you strongly support Greenpeace, the Sea Shepherds or another anti-whaling NGO, contact your regional organisation and see what you can do to help their campaigning.

:blowkiss:

Edit: I can't keep up with you all!! Thankyou in advance for all the favs to this stamp!! I don't have time to respond to all comments and discussions, and I definately dont have time to keep up with all the favourites!! So i will just say thankyou now, and Im glad you appreciate it. Dont forget to check out my gallery if you have time...

Here's an idea for you to try out. Whaling screws up the oceans ecosystem and most all major world powers depend on the oceans for food, so whaling is a threat to everyone, not just the whales. I am a hard core, cosplaying anime fan who thinks the Japanese whalers should have a run in with the old Nuremburg court.

Another agruement, assuming you like Sea Shepherd, they are a vigilante group enforcing international law...not pirates.
:iconakanishi-san:
well honestly some whales are actually over populated and are endangering mackerels and sardine population cause whales eat a ton. aha.

plus japan aint the only country that whales. i think its sorta racist when people just accuse japan because alaska, greenland, iceland, mediterranean islands, whatever...a lot of islands do still. its what they gotta do. say china and america has enough land to grow crops, but island nations need the sea for resources.

whales just happen to be a "fish" that is bigger, and far much more useful than others. their bones, whiskers, meat, oil...everything is useful to these people.

as long as we hunt whales that ARE endangering the ocean and ARE over populated i see no reason to stop. ;/

Led by the Revolutionary War Soviet!
From the vast taiga to British seas cold
Our Red Army's the strongest of all!

For we must labor
And never waver
And fight this last,
Last,
Fight!
:iconmutantarachnid:
Do you know a single thing about this or are you just spurting bullshit?

Can you tell me why Japan has been catching sei whale for it's 'scientific' market meat?

The things that are endangering the ocean and making the mackrel and sardine population diminish are HUMANS due to major overfishing. Global warming is also playing a huge part.
:iconmutantarachnid:
It makes me sad that Japan are going to bully and blackmail the IWC into allowing them to commercially hunt again around their costal waters. :(
:iconakanishi-san:
i just wrote a 6 page essay on whaling. i think i know what im talking about.
